RAIL BAND
Buffet Hotel de la Gare RCAM013373
SRLP002

One of the most incredible pieces of music to have come out of the African continent during the 70s, mixing Jazz Funk and traditional Mandingo melodies,
available for the first time in over 30 years!

The Rail Band of Bamako is perhaps the most legendary orchestras from Mali. Based on one end of the decaying train line between Mali and Senegal, besides the Buffet Hôtel de la Gare de Bamako. In its 1970’s prime and glory, this central Bamako location used to be an entertaining hub for a broad and diverse clientele. Night people, businessmen, travelers, politicians, policemen, diplomats, music fans or hookers, each played their parts in order to dance, drink out and rejoice to the music played by the orchestra, on a tiny stage two steps above the premices.
Nicknamed the Rail Band, the orchestra’s rhythm of seduction soundtracked a golden decade for Mali’s music, from 1970 to the early 1980’s. It was led by Tidiani Koné, both a griot and a jazzman. An outstanding and unsung musician, his idea was to bring Malian music out of the dead-end of afro-cuban and European imitations. Koné was the first one to understand that Salif Keita’s voice was pure gold when he took the chance to recruit this young albinos singer.

  FRANKIE ZHIVAGO
The Age Of Flying High
SRLP001

One of the rarest Bahamas Soul LPs available for the first time in over 30 years!
Nassau-based Frankie ‘Zhivago’ Young was part of the musical scene that created the Island Soul sound– mixing local junkanoo and Goombay rhythms with the US RnB and Soul sounds that filtered over from Miami.
The age of flying high’ is Frankie Young’s second and rarest LP. Initially coming out on a tiny private label based in Florida with little distribution and forgotten for many years, the few copies that turn up are highly sought and sell for in excess of $500 – if you can find one…
Featuring the mythical track ‘Someone stole your love’ plus lost pearls of sweet soul, reggae and of course hot Island funk, not to mention the involvement of Jamaican musical legend Boris Gardner, the LP is one of the pinnacles of the Island Soul sound.

Superfly Records are proud to present a fully licensed high-qualilty reissue, pressed on 180 gram vinyl with authentic paste-on covers printed in Japan.
